ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alesia Merris first recognized her lifelong passion for Art at a very early age when she first began drawing at her family home near Dayton, Ohio. During her high school years at Waynesville High, she took every available course in Art and excelled. School administrators urged her many times to participate in art projects and contests for the school and local community festivals. At the age of 13, Alesia applied to the famous "Art Instruction School". For the next few years, she worked through their programs learning new skills and refining her own style. By the age of 15, Alesia's dedication, excellence, and ability prompted Waynesville High to award her with their very first Scholastic Achievement Award in Art.
Several years later, Alesia married and moved to Virginia where she and her husband Patrick began their family. Patirck served in the military for eleven years offering Alesia the opportunity to travel and experience the unique beauty and atmosphere living in different parts of the country.
Near the beginning of her career, Alesia Merris worked for Candle-Lite, an Ohio company in Leesburg, Ohio, that produced candles on a large scale. After a brief employment on the production line, Alesia's talents became known to company management when she produced landscape design sketches for the main entrance of the plant. The president of Candle-Lite then offered her a position as an as an illustrator producing packaging, sales and conceptual drawings for their products. While in that region of Ohio, Alesia continued to embrace her passion for art and attended Southern State College where she learned even more in the field of illustrating and design.
The family then moved to awe-inspiring Colorado where they hiked on weekends and drew in the beauty of the mountains. Alesia found employment in Colorado Springs with a small screen printing company where she was introduced to paste up, process separation, camera work, and printing.
As Alesia and Pat continued their travels,Charleston, South Carolina was the next place they called home. Heremore opportunities availed themselves to Alesia. Her experience in screen printing and her natural talent led her to a large screen printing company where she quickly climbed to the position of Art Director. In this function, Alesia involved herself directly with customer interaction, problem solving, and building her knowledge of more technical aspects in the field of art.
